I hardly ever pass on any of those chain type letters that I get in an email, but I liked this so much I wanted it on my blog
for as many people to read as possible. He couldn't have said it any better.
The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.
I Only hope we find GOD again before it is too late
My confession:

I am a Jew, and every single one of my ancestors was Jewish. And it does not bother me even a little bit when people call those beautiful lit up, bejeweled trees, Christmas trees. I don't feel threatened. I don't feel discriminated against. That's what they are, Christmas trees.

It doesn't bother me a bit when people say, 'Merry Christmas' to me. I don't think they are slighting me or getting ready to put me in a ghetto. In fact, I kind of like it. It shows that we are all brothers and sisters celebrating this happy time of year. It doesn't bother me at all that there is a manger scene on display at a key intersection near my beach house in Malibu .. If people want a crèche, it's just as fine with me as is the Menorah a few hundred yards away.

I don't like getting pushed around for being a Jew, and I don't think Christians like getting pushed around for being Christians. I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.. I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country.. I can't find it in the Constitution and I don't like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren't allowed to worship God as we understand Him? I guess that's a sign that I'm getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This is not intended to be a joke; it's not funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

Billy Graham 's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her 'How could God let something like this happen?' (regarding Hurricane Katrina ).. Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, 'I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?'

In light of recent events... Terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK. Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock 's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said okay.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with 'WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.'

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says. Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing. Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?
Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they will think of you for sending it.
Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.
Pass it on if you think it has merit.
My Best Regards, Honestly and respectfully,
Ben Stein

Elder Peterson is doing great. He's been out 10 1/2 months now. The 1st pic. is Sean who they taught and was baptized by another kid who was just baptized about a year ago. 2nd pic. -is Hope, who was baptized by her friend. 3rd pic. - There are 4 "Elder Petersons" in his mission... these are the 3 in his Zone. 4th pic. - someone sent him a doo rag (I think that's what they call them) and 5th pic. is beautiful field! My family keeps asking me to put his emails on here so they can read them, so I will try to do that more often. (just ignore the punctuation, spelling, capitals etc... that's what texting did/does to our kids!!)
On 10-25-09 he says, "So tranfers were yesterday... and elder brockett and I didnt go anywhere. So were staying together here in good ole rocket city. Were pretty excited about it. We got a lot of good things going and we get along so good which will be nice cuz this transfer is Thanksgiving christmas and new years so its gonna be a blast.
Thanksgiving plans- We are going to the ryans at noon tomorrow. they are having relatives from tennessee and stuff so that will be a lot of fun being around a big family and hanging out. we will be there for a while then we will be going to do some service and feed the homeless for a while then we will be back over to another members for a late thanksgiving dinner. so it looks like it will be a good day. our wards are having a turkey bowl together on saturday but they are playing tackle and were not allowed to so thats pretty gay if i say so myself. We might go throw the football around for a little though. Im excited for december. We had stake conference recently and Pres. Tate came up and gave an unbelievable talk. Of course he opened with his signature opening that he does for every zone conference or talk.. " God bless the elders and sisters of Israel. my goodness ya look good to me." He talked about how he was trying to figure out what princple, since hes converted to the church from a methodist, that he has really learned and grasped that he hadnt before and he said it was that fact that he was a literal child of heavenly father. he went on to talk about how great a time we have to be on the earth. and that there are millions and millions and billions of planets out there that God has created and how we cant comprehend how many there are. then he said of all those, our Heavenly Father came to THIS one, to THIS country in upstate new york to a humble young boy. and we are all part of that. it was a powerful talk.
Alright well we are gonna go play some ball today. Elder Brockett and I are 12-0 as a basketball team. he thinks its awesome that we are undefeated and always tells people and challenges other missionaries and members. And when i say undefeated i mean just like the tide. We play auburn on friday for the iron bowl! everybody goes nuts for this one especially and i have already seen tons of shirts people have made for it. I cant wait to watch them when i get home. i have been converted. im a crimson tide football fan for life. alright yall thanks for everything love ya see ya!" (kathy) = Love those emails on Wednesdays... WE LOVE our MISSIONARIES!

Thanksgiving was awesome! Most of my family came from AZ, except my nephew Colton & Jamie's family, (she just had her 4th baby last week) my niece Savana and Denee's husband. We had a great time. Wed. night my brother, and I took my parents to see David Copperfield for my Dad's birthday. My dad has always loved doing little magic tricks. Every time he comes to Vegas he goes to the Magic Store at the Forum and buys some trick cards or something and practices on us, so I thought it would be fun to take him to a real magic show! It was pretty amazing some of the magic tricks Copperfield did that night. We had seats on the 3rd row and were hoping they'd call my dad out of the audience to come up on stage. We had a nice time doing that together. Thanksgiving day we had 25 people for dinner. Most of my family stayed at the Red Rock Hotel, so it was nice and convenient to go bowling, we all saw the movie, "The Blind Side" together, the boys did the arcade and some of the girls had to see Twilight at midnight! We had a great weekend eating lots of leftovers and tons of desserts and had fun playing games together, writing our missionaries ~ 1 from each of our families ~ Brooklyn in the Phillipines, Brock in Chicago and Landry in Alabama. Most of the company left on saturday and then we went to the Petersons that night for Grandpa's big birthday party! I'm grateful for 2 wonderful families that I'm lucky to be a part of.

My Father in Law had his 80th birthday on Thanksgiving Day and we had such a fun party in his honor. Brad made a fun (and funny) video from highlights of old family movies. Also for the past month, Brad went around to almost everyone in the family separately and had them sing Happy Birthday and a Happy Birthday song in Swedish that the Petersons have been singing for years. It was so funny and we all had a great time watching that. The best part of the night was sitting around Grandpa's chair as he told stories from his childhood. He talked about when his father died when he was just 7, his mother who raised 5 children alone during the depression, he was a pilot in the Air Force, which brought him to Las Vegas, and how blessed he feels to be married to Anna and have such a wonderful family. It was a special night for all of us. I can't believe he's 80 and I've been blessed to know him for 28 years. What a kind, giving loving man, Father in law and Grandpa to my boys. He is a great example to them and I am lucky to be a part of his family. top row: Brad, Lance, Clark, bottom l. to r. Mom, Dad, Sona, Zan and Jana -

Andrea, Paige and I went down to a taping of Dancing With The Stars! It was a lot of fun to see it live and to see how different it is being there. It was a long day, standing in line, then sitting in another line somewhere else and then being put up in the Balcony because only VIP's sat down below! They told us that the hosts would be starting the show upstairs right in front of us and to not wave into the camera and just clap and smile!! Well, they never did even come up. The next night I watched it and they were upstairs for about 4 different segments. Oh well....we had a blast and enjoyed our short little trip to Hollywood. We had a great dinner in Beverly HIlls/Rodeo Drive and walked around. The next morning we came back and shopped around a little before we went to the show. Tanner, Maddex and Crew came to Calif. with us. They dropped us off at CBS Studio and then spent the 4 hours while we were at the show over at the Beach. It was a gorgeous day ~ in the 80's. (That is sand Maddex was throwing into the camera! nice... only Maddex could get away with that!!)

After 4 sons and lots of Basketball, Baseball and a little Tennis and Soccer, Crew is the first of my kids to play team Football. It was a lot of fun to watch, and we actually went undefeated and won the season. Then came the Tournament... our kids were doing great. We had our main quarterback out of town and had to use our back up. His dad would yell at our kids if his son, the quarterback, threw a ball and our kids missed it. Then we were up by 5 points and had 18 seconds left on the clock. We had the ball and all we had to do was keep it. What ever you do, don't pass it ... Crew hikes the ball and our quarterback go's back & throws the ball and they intercepted it and ran for a touchdown... They won. Our kids were devastated and before the kids walked off the field, our quarterbacks dad gets him and they run off without even coming back to the huddle and shaking hands with the other team. 2 Lessons to be learned...don't ever yell at your own teams players, cause you never know when your own kid will mess up & lose the game for us. And.... be a good sport, no matter what. It was fun though, and I think Crew really loved it! It was just hard to lose like
that.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LANDRY.....We are so grateful for YOU. You are a wonderful son, grandson, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and MISSIONARY! We love you!

HAPPY 20th BIRTHDAY TO LANDRY.
Last week our friend Mark Cole was going to Birmingham AL for Business. He called and said he would love to be able to see Landry and maybe take him to lunch. Just the week before I had got a call from Janet and Joey, the couple Landry baptized. They had called to say hello and wanted us to know how much Landry meant to them and that they would always be grateful that he came on his mission and found them. The gospel changed their lives forever. Well, since Janet had called and I had her number, I called and asked her for the Elders phone number. I got it and (no, I didn't even call him, even though it was tempting!) I gave the number to Mark. When Mark got to Alabama he called and got to talk to Landry. They set up a time to go to dinner and Mark drove 90 miles out of his way to go where Landry was. Mark took video of the area and his apartment, the church next door etc... It was fun to get an idea of where he is and just how beautiful it is there. He took Landry a birthday box from us, Paige and the Coles. It was so fun to get to see the video 2 days later after Mark got back to Vegas. Landry looked so good, so happy and so adjusted to the mission life. It was great to see and we are grateful that Mark took the time to do this. Marks son Taylor and Landry have been best buds since they were 6 and Taylor is on a mission in Toronto Canada.

Crew and I went to Disneyland with some friends. It wasn't even crowded. That's what happens
when you ditch school in the middle of the week to go! ha Good times...good memories...good friends!
In honor of the 44th President of the United States, Baskin-Robbins Ice Cream has introduced a new flavor, “Barocky Road”

Barocky Road is a blend of half-Vanilla, half-Chocolate, and surrounded by Nuts and Flakes. The Vanilla portion of the mix is not openly advertised and usually denied as an ingredient. The Nuts and Flakes are all very bitter and hard to swallow. The cost is $100.00 a scoop.

When purchased it will be presented to you in a large beautiful cone, but then the Ice Cream is taken away and given to the person in line behind you.

Thus, you are left with an empty wallet, no change, holding an empty cone, with no hope of getting any Ice Cream.

"Good friends are like stars... You don't always see them, but you know they are always there."
Last week I went to Provo to meet up with some of my best friends who I've know all of my life. Jodi and Kelli
live in Utah and Chrissie came up from AZ. Jodi's husband has cancer and we wanted to go up and show her support and
give her a hug. We spent the day together laughing, crying and remembering the good 'ol days! You know they are a good friend when you haven't seen each other for years and you pick up right where you left off.

We had a fun night at Angel Park the other night. It was a beautiful night, I was with my beautiful people and the only thing missing was Andrea and Maddex. Maddex would have
loved it.

Landry and his companion tracted out Janet and Joey, who had
just lost their son. They taught them the gospel and Landry was able to baptize them last week. What a beautiful thing! I love them all ready and I've never even met them. They look so happy and I know the gospel will bring them a lot of peace and a lot to look forward too. The Gospel is True!

videoP-Day....... Elder Christensen told us that all of the missionaries want to be on Landry's team, because whichever team he's on, wins!!! aww, we miss watching him play, so this is awesome!

Friday night we had a wonderful visitor...Ross Christensen from UT, who just got home from his mission 6 weeks ago in ALABAMA!! (And he brought some pics, and video.) He picked up Landry from the airport when he arrived in AL and was his Zone leader for the last 4 months. He spent the last day of his mission tracting with Landry. He spent a lot of time with Landry and told us some funny stories and things about them! It was so fun. He said he wanted to see the basketball court and Landry's room, since he had heard about both of them.

video

My friend Kristen sent me the first picture of Sliders and Fries, so I just had to try making them. I made some yesterday and sent them to Landry. I hope they are not too destroyed by the time he gets them in Alabama ;) The sliders are cupcakes, brownies, red, yellow, and green frosting and the fries are sugar cookies with cinnamon/sugar! Fun to make and Crew and Bridger loved them!. Mine didn't turn out exactly like her picture, but here they are...

Elder Peterson is doing great and has been out 8 months now. Here are parts of our last couple of emails.
We're still teaching Joey and Janet. We had another lesson with them and its going great. Joey made a comment last night that this is what hes been searching for his whole life and everything just makes so much sense. HIs hold up is that he smokes, he doesnt smoke that much but he does and i was praying that as we taught about the word of wisdom he would be able to do stop. We taught it and committed him to live the word of wisdom. I used the scriptue in 1 corinthians 10:13 that says, "there hath no temptation taken you but as such is common to man, but God is faithful and will not suffer you to be tempted above that which ye are able, but will with the tempation make a way for ye to escape, that ye will be able to bear it." I love that scripture and i think its a scripture mastery. anyways when we asked him to live it and that the Lord will help him stop he said boldly I just stopped right now. it was pretty cool. I called him like a half hour ago to see how he was doing and i said so you still think you will be able to stop and he was like elder peterson i already did. ha joey is the man. They are still good for the 19th and im excited to be here for that and everything.Thats awesome about BYU.. everybody has talked to us about it. And bama got the W as well. Gameday was pretty cool. The streets were packed, the stores were packed everybody was so excited.. 7:00 rolls around and silence. we were walking down the highway which is always a little scary and not a single car passed us for like 10 minutes. i was walking down the middle of the highway just because i could. we tried to set up a lesson during game time but couldnt so we went knocking doors all night. no success there. it was good to get a win though and keep these people happy.
I loved that quote dad about work. i printed off a talk called the principle of work that i liked alot. i love talks and quotes about hard work. Ezra taft benson said, "the greatest secret to missionary work is work.... work. work. work. there is no satisfactory substitute." i love it.
i had a really cool experience monday night. elder wright ran into a stop sign and messed up his bike... thats a whole other story... so we have been on foot on the days without the car. we had planned to see this less active guy a few miles away. so we were walking and i was kinda mad cuz it was such a waste of time walking so much and scripture came to my head from D&C 61 when joseph smith and some other elders were traveling and he had the revelation that the Lord said "it is not needful for mine elders to be moving so swiftly on the water while the inhabitants on either side are perishing in unbelief"or something close to that.. anyways i felt it pretty strong so i decided to knock some doors on the way and the first house we knocked on was this young couple that invited us in and said that had just decided the night before to find a chuch to start going to. we had a good lesson and we are going to see them again on saturday and they are coming to church on sunday. im pretty excited about them. p.s. roll tide

I was talking to my mother in law about the things going on in the United States, Obama, Health Care, Abortion laws, gay rights etc... She went right in to her amazing personal library and came out and handed me this quote. It was given by a Prophet of the Lord, President Harold B. Lee, and it brought me a lot of peace. Just thought I'd share....."Men may fail in this country, earthquakes may come, seas may heave beyond their bounds, there may be great drought , disaster, and hardship, but this nation, founded on principles laid down by men whom God raised up, will never fail. This is the cradle of humanity, where life on this earth began in the Garden of Eden. This is the place of the new Jerusalem. This is the place that the Lord said is favored above all other nations in all the world. This is the place where the Savior will come to His temple. This is the favored land in all the world. Yes, I repeat, men may fail, but this nation won't fail. I have faith in America; you and I must have faith in America, if we understand the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are living in a day when we must pay heed to these challenges. I plead with you not to preach pessimism. Preach that this is the greatest country in all the world. This is the favored land. This is the land of our forefathers. It is the nation that will stand despite whatever trials or crises it may yet have to pass through." Pres. Harold B. Lee (Ye Are the Light of the World, 350-351)

Crew started 4th grade on Monday and Cory left for BYU today. It's just me all alone in this house all day. I don't know what to do with myself. Of course there is always plenty to do around here, visiting teaching, reading my scriptures, helping people, exercising etc...., you'd think I would really enjoy it....and for a day or two I guess I do....but I love having the house full of my boys and their friends, even if I did used to complain once in awhile (Landry would laugh hearing that!) but it's true. I love being a mom and I miss my kids when they are gone.

Crew had an awesome time going to UNLV basketball camp a few weeks ago. He loved playing on their main court! The Rebel players were their coaches along with Coach Krueger. At the end of the last day of camp, Crew and his friend Mitchie were the last ones on the court. Everyone had left and they just kept shooting. They looked so small out their on that big court in that big stadium! Landry would have loved it :)

Crew stayed in AZ with his cousin Grant while we went to Miami last month. He had so much fun. Clark has season tickets for the Suns game (Crew's favorite team!) and took Crew and Grant to the "Open Gym" for season ticket holders where they got to tour the locker room, meet a few players, the general manager and see a press conference with the newest player. Crew was in heaven! Check out how tall the shower heads are!

While Elder Peterson is out converting the Alabamians, we were missing him at the beach. We had fun digging in the sand, riding the waves, playing "Gang of 4" our favorite dinner - at the Chart House and being with all of the "Wicked" girls, and Cory!!

Brad's annual Root Beer tasting contest is always a hit with the older cousins! Out of 21 different brands, these 3 were the winners. Maddex was so fun and he loved the sand and the waves. And of course, one of my boys is missing. Elder Peterson is off doing bigger and better things! We're saving his spot though!

Another great year at the beach. Kayaking, playing on the beach and riding the waves etc....

Monday, August 3, 2009

We were really missing Landry while we were at the Beach last week and afraid he was wishing he was there with us. (It just wasn't the same without he and Dallin.) But then we got his email, and we knew he was doing just fine! Here are some highlights from his email........Hey hows it going? I bet yall are having fun at the beach.. Thanks for the emails and everything. Elder Wright and i had a good first week together. Hes a really hard worker. He just came from lieds alabama where sir charles is from. (Charles Barkley) Anyways last week, we had an awesome night. we had just prayed about what streets to tract for the evening and we got on the bikes and started going there. We were riding by a service station and i saw this black guy walking out and he was wearing an Amare jersey. i looked back at the road and just thought that was pretty cool. i road for like ten more seconds debating whether or not to turn around and i felt like i should. so i turned around and my companion had no idea why but followed me. we went back over and he was filling up. i went up and started talking to him about the suns and stuff and he told us he actually just got the jersey from a friend but hes a die hard mavs fan and hes from dallas.

so i was ready to say have a nice day sir and leave but i kept talking thinking maybe i could convert him to be a suns fan and to the true church. he said he had actually talked to some of us in dallas the day before he moved out here. and that we could come over and share a message with him the next day. we showed up friday and he had forgotten and was outside playin ball with some friends. of course i took my opportunity to play ball. we played four on four and it was alot of fun. his name is andre and after we played for like 45 minutes and i was drenched in my pros we asked to share a message with all of them. so we all sat on the curb and we taught them. elder wright wasnt too happy at the time cuz he thinks we shouldnt have been playing and gotten so sweaty and everything. but we had a real good lesson. elder wrights a real good teacher and always asks real good questions im working on that. but the lesson went well and they were pretty excited to visit our church. we taught three of them in the church sat night and all three came to church on sunday. them seem to really like it. its hard to get into peoples heads that this is not just another church. and that if what were saying is true then this is THE church. no matter how easy i explain it they just think its a different church. most people here belive it doesnt matter what church as long as your there to worship Jesus and you are already saved. once saved always saved right? wrong.

Anyways were playing ball at the church today and having another lesson after. were excited. I feel like this is the reason i stayed here for another transfer. If i didnt see andre in an amare jersey at that time i would have kept riding. It feels so good to know the Lord trusts me and is using me to change these peoples lives. pray for andre mike and dj!

We got a video and lots of pictures from Elder Peterson today! Loved it! He sounds great, is working a lot, sweating in the heat and humidity, riding bikes part of the time and sharing the gospel. There is a town next to Harvest where he's at called TANNER, Alabama. It was the first town the church came to in Alabama. He says the Bar B Q's are famous, there are a ton of trees, poison ivy and the sunsets are amazing. He just hit his 6 months out!

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

On the 14th Elder Peterson will hit his 6 month mark! WOW, sometimes it feels like it's gone by fast, but then sometimes it feels like it's been forever. "Nobody loves you like your mom" This is kind of a long post, but for my family in AZ, I know how much you love Landry's emails. Here is part of last weeks email......

"alot has happened out here the past week. its quite different being senior companion and having a younger missionary with me. i have to make a lot more decisions and make sure were doing everything right and all

When elder buckley and i were weekly planning i was just thinking like man we are supposed to be full time teachers we should be able to at least teach 2 lessons every day. so we made a goal of 12 this week because p day doesnt count. p day ends at 6 but we have missionary correlation with the ward mission leader on wednesday nights.

So we made that goal and have been fasting and praying we can do it. to start off the week on monday we taught four lessons in one day. yesterday we taught two more. so two days into the week we are just one shy of the most i have taught in a whole week here the past 3 and a half months. we have been pumped. i love studing conference talks and monday morning i was studying the one called faith in the Lord Jesus Christ by Elder Pearson. something he said that i love is "we get what we focus on consistently." and he quotes the scripture in moroni 7 that says if ye have faith in me ye shall have power to do whatsoever thing is expedient in me.

so we have been focusing consistently on our goals and gaining a stronger faith. it has been awesome. i have never worked so hard as we have been working and i love that i have also never been so happy as i am now i love how they go together. just wanted to let you know were doing good and were hoping the success continues and that we can see some baptisms here soon.

as they always say out here... have a blessed week,"
elder peterson

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BOYS

HAPPY BIRTHDAY to my boys TANNER & CREW!

For Tanners 16th birthday we gave him a baby brother. (How nice of us, don't you think?)
They have been best buddies ever since. TANNER is a great young man, a wonderful son, Andrea thinks he's a pretty awesome husband, and he's the cutest best Daddy too. We are so grateful to have a son like TANNER!
CREW is the funnest kid and I don't know what we would be like if we hadn't decided to have one more after all of those years.
We have been blessed with a smart, funny, sweet, best friend kind of kid who finished up our team perfectly. He is also such
a great Uncle to Maddex. They are good buddies too. We love you guys ~ HAVE A HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Nobody loves you like your mom xoxoxox!

Just got one of those letters every "Missionary Mom" loves to get! A letter from a lady in Landry's ward in Alabama who has a son out on a mission too, so she loves having her ward missionaries over for dinner. She said he's doing great and says he's a wonderful missionary. So sweet! She sent these pictures. Thanks Sister McRaney! (Landry is 6'1", so his companion, Elder Nuckles must
really be tall!)

My nephew John Powell married Meghan Albert on Saturday! Beautiful ceremony, beautiful place, beautiful couple!!!!

Sunday, May 24, 2009

I posted this once before, but was thinking about Memorial Day and how grateful I am to live in
America and how grateful I am for all of our servicemen and women. My son is on a mission and I miss him,
I can't even imagine how I'd feel if he was "on a mission" in Iraq.

There is a huge rock near a gravel pit on Hwy. 25 in rural Iowa. For generations kids have painted slogans, names, and obsenities
on this rock, changing its character many times. A few months back the rock recieved its latest paint job, and since then it has
been left completely undisturbed. It's quite an impressive sight. (And it was done by a teenager!) (click on each picture to read
what was written on the rock

Mother's Day was awesome! I got a nice card and letter and a memory card from Elder Peterson on Friday. Sweet. The pictures are of him soaking wet from riding bikes in the rain. After Crew's baseball game on saturday each boy gave his mom a rose. What a thoughtful Coach to think of that! Sunday was nice to go to church and rush home for Landry's call. He sounds so good. It was just SO NICE TO HEAR HIS VOICE. We got to talk awhile and I got all my "mom" questions answered
like: how's the food, do you have enough white shirts, are they feeding you good etc.... I guess they don't feed them as often as our ward does. I can hardly find a date on our wards missionary calendar to sign up, they are booked solid through the month. Landry said they get one and maybe 2 dinner appt. a week. The rest of the week they have to fend for themselves. I don't know how Landry's making it without Panda! ha The rest of the day was nice to spend with the rest of my boys, talking to my mom on the phone and seeing Brad's mom too. I'm so blessed and so grateful. Happy 1st Mothers day to Andrea. She's such a good mommy. We are so glad Tanner found her!

So Elder Peterson is doing great. Here's a little of his last email......."Sonya's baptism went really well. Brother Anderson baptized and comfirmed her and Elder Nuckles and I gave the talks. The baptism was awesome. It was cool because Bro. Andersons family was out for the weekend to visit so they got to come to the baptism. We met with John again the other day and the lessons are going good.........There was a TORNADO watch which just means the conditions are right for one. But we're teaching John and it's raining pretty hard and out of nowhere it stops and gets really still. That's a tornado sign. So we go look out the window and all of the sudden huge golf balls (hail) start falling so we had to run outside and get into his cellar thing. It was crazy. It was so loud. We stayed for about 5 minutes and came out and there was hail everywhere. Then Johns cell phone rings and it was his mom. She lives a couple of miles away and said she saw the funnel cloud go right over his neighborhood. It hit about a mile away from us and took out three trailors. The weather here is so weird, I'll be sweating like crazy one day and be stuck inside from thunderstorms the next. Anyways, were still alive. Everything else is good."

We went to California last weekend for Crew's basketball tournament. I didn't take one picture at any of the 5 games he played in, but we did stop by the beach for awhile before we headed home. The weather was perfect, but then isn't it always perfect anywhere near the beach?........ Andrea and I went shopping and found these crazy looking shoes. We just had to try them on. I don't know....what do you think? .........Just a cute picture of Maddex. He doesn't really suck his thumb, but he did the other night and he looked so cute, I couldn't resist!

Crew loves to miniature golf and we found a fun indoor,
flourescent "King Putt" over on Lake Mead and Tenaya. It really is a lot of fun, cheap entertainment and perfect if it's windy out or too hot.

Cory is still alive! Cory called a few days ago AFTER he had gone flying with his girlfriend Mindy, her brother Jason is the pilot and his girlfriend Lauren. Oh my gosh...I about died, and then I saw these pictures on his facebook and I really about died...They flew from Salt Lake to Delta Utah where some of Mindy's relatives live, landed for awhile and then flew back to SLC. (I put the pic. of Lauren, because you can tell they were really flying, and look at that snow....) I keep telling myself this quote that Brad taught me a long time ago by LeGrande Richards...."For every worry under the sun, there is a remedy, or there is none. If there is ~ go and find it. If there is not ~ never mind it." So when it comes to kids, I guess sooner or later you just have to let them go. I'm trying! (Cory, I hope you don't mind that I stole these pictures off of your facebook!)

Easter Break is over....dang, it was nice to hang out, NO Homework, no schedule! We went out and stayed at Lake Las Vegas with a couple of friends/families for a few days. The kids loved the pool, taking the little paddle boats out and hanging out. Brad had to work, but came out and stayed at night. It was a short, but nice little get away. Crew played in a basketball tournament and played awesome. He got hit in the nose pretty hard and blood was everywhere. Brad told him he'd be fine, so I took his jersey into the bathroom and cleaned off the blood and he put it back on (soaking wet) and went back in for the second half!! Maddex loved his new "Mater" truck he got for Easter! We had a nice big Easter Brunch and enjoyed having Cory home for the weekend. Celebrated Brad's birthday at Sammies, and I didn't take many pictures...but here are a few! Hope you all had a great Spring Break and EASTER! Oh yeah, and the Wednesday Email from Landry was great! The highlight of the week!!! Here's a little of his email.....We have a baptism on Saturday (dad's birthday) with a girl named Sonya. She is from Germany and is about 28. We tracted into her a few weeks ago and have taught her at this members house a couple of times. It's a young couple from Utah with a little boy, they are awesome. They have done all of the work! They pick her up, feed her and let us teach her in their home. Everytime we would teach her she just wouldn't commit to anything and would say "I'll pray about it." Well we saw her last p-day about 7:00 p.m. and had an awesome lesson. We drove home and she calls up an hour later and says, "all right, I have prayed enough and I am ready to be baptized! When and where?" So we taught her a few nights later and set up her baptism for saturday! We're pretty excited for that! ... and later he says......"speaking of Conference, man that was so good. I didn't even take a nap! There were so many amazing talks, but my favorite is Elder Uchtdorf's talk in the priesthood session! "Im doing a great work and can not come down" as he's holding his fist in the air! ....And to answer questions that all moms ask...the food is pretty good! I never know what the heck I'm eating, but it's usually good. We get fed in a lot of trailers and have to sit on the ground and push the cats and dogs away. I'm starting to like dogs though! We had
Zone Conf. yesterday and that was really good. President Tate is awesome! My ward is awesome and everything else is good"

Today is BRAD's Birthday! He is the greatest DAD, HUSBAND, GRANDPA, SON, BROTHER, COACH, FRIEND, MISSIONARY,
EXAMPLE, BROKER, etc.... etc.... We love you Brad! HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRADLEY GRANT PETERSON!

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

The boys made their annual March Madness trip and this year it was in Greensboro, North Carolina! They had a great time watching tons of games, touring around a little on the off day, and checking out NC Tarhills campus and also Duke's which was just about 7 minutes away. Andrea and Maddex went back to Pennsylvania to see her family and Crew and I just hung out at home together. He will go with them one of these years. (They sure missed Landry being there, but they all realized a long time ago that they would each have to miss it for 2 years, so maybe by the time Landry gets back the Rebels will be good again!)

Wednesday, March 18, 2009

We just got Landry's email and he is getting transferred tomorrow (Thursday) He will be going to Athens, Alabama! I will post his address when I get it and please feel free to WRITE TO HIM! You know how Missionaries love and need letters!! AND....
why doesn't anyone ever leave comments anymore? Come on, I will if you will!! That's what makes blogging so much fun! Love ya'al!

Trevor's back!! My nephew Trevor Petersen got home from his mission in Sweden this week. He gave such an awesome talk on Sunday and it is great having him back. It is so fun to see him with all 7 of his "R.M." cousins together again! (Dallin and Landry will be back in less than 2!) Brady, Tanner, Cory, Trevor, John, Chandler, and Cameron!

Landry's email: "It's so dang hot outside! I have been sweating like crazy on those bikes. It went from a snowy blizzard cold Sunday to the next Sunday being SO hot and humid. I got a taste of summer this week and don't know if I'm ready for it! Send short sleeve shirts!" Landry had his first baptism on saturday and was able to do her confirmation of Sunday. He's also teaching a family of 6. The dad is very interested but his wife is not. Their 17 year old daughter is ready to be baptized. He said that the Dad is huge sports fanatic and keeps him posted on all of the March Madness going on! He is looking forward to taking some investigators to see Gladys Knight and her Las Vegas choir performing in Birmingham this weekend! Kris and Lloyd Benson help with all of the preparations for those firesides and Kris said she will look for Landry! Kris said they work closely with the Mission Presidents for the firesides and maybe she can request Elder Peterson for help! Elder Peterson has been out 2 months now!

Landry's doing great in Alabama! Here are some pieces of his emails: We had an awesome snow storm on Sunday. They said it was the most it has snowed here in 10-15 years. When we showed up to church our Bishop said we are just having Sacrament Meeting today. My companion and I were the speakers. My talk was on the impact of member missionary work. A few days before our talks we were biking on a pretty busy street and I saw a billboard from NIKE. It was a shoe advertisement and it said "Running never takes more than it gives back...believe in the run!" So it ended up becoming my topic, except I changed it to "Missionary work never takes more than it gives back...believe in the work!" Another thing, we went to a chinese buffet the night before and my fortune said, "In order to take, one must first give" so I used that too! After church we walked out of the building and there were about 50 people around the corner with snowballs waiting for us! We were attacked! For the next 20 minutes it was this huge Ward Snowball fight in this big grassy area next to the church that was covered in snow. It was a lot of fun.

When Maddex came to play last night, I got out this piggy bank Elder that is nearly as big as Maddex (I'm saving a dollar a day for Landry while he is gone!) I sat it down next to him and he didn't know what to think of it. He looked at it and touched it awhile and then started to make the saddest face. Then he looked up at his Mom and just started crying! It was funny, but we tried not to laugh, since it scared him so bad. Tanner kept showing it to him to see if he would get used to it, but he did not like it one bit!

(The picture is not Landry...I got it off of Google!) We got a great email from Landry today and he told us the funniest story, it's best told in his words, so here it is....
so yesterday we were riding our bikes and this jeep drove by with about 5 people and they were yelling at us. We didn't think anything of it and two minutes later we see it coming around the corner and I was like..."here we go!" They pretended like they were going to run us over and then swerved out of the way and nailed me with a red Icee. They were going crazy and drove away. What they didn't realize is, as the guy stood up to throw it, his phone fell out of the car. He didn't feel it or anything. So we went back to our place and the phone rang and I answered it. They said, "who is this," and I just said "this is the missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, what's up!" The guy felt so dumb but he was laughing and stuff and said he wasn't the one who threw it and he's sorry. We told them we would meet them at the gas station right by our house. So I put my stained shirt back on so they could see it and we went down there. Just the one guy showed up in a different car and he got out and gave me $40 bucks and apologized and told me to go buy a new shirt. We just laughed it off and started talking to him, and now we're going to his church on Sunday night. He goes to the Pelham Church of God. We're excited for that. Hopefully we can end up teaching this guy, that would be funny! Then I'll forgive him 'cause it was the spirit telling him to hit me, ha ha.
(I'm glad they had such a great attitude)

We got some new pictures from Elder Peterson! We are waiting for his latest email today! Wednesdays are my new favorite day of the week!!

Elder Peterson & Sister Grant (cousins) before he left the MTC.

While Crew and I were in Salt Lake to see Landry, we got to go to the Draper Temple Open House! It was absolutely beautiful and a great experience for Crew and I together. We were driving down to Provo to see Cory when we saw the Temple up on the hill, so I called Cory and told him we might drive by it. He said they were having the Open House and we should try to get in.
We drove up, and even though we weren't dressed for it, (I felt bad for not being in a dress, but didn't want to pass up the opportunity) the guide told us to come on in! It is one of the most beautiful Temples I have seen - inside and out! And how cool that Crew got to go inside a Temple!!! The next day after Landry's plane left, we had some time to kill before our flight back home, so we went back to the Hotel and Crew swam, then we went over & walked around Temple square. Crew loves playing in the snow and kept throwing snowballs at me! It was a great little 24 hour trip with Crew, and we were so happy to get to see Elder Peterson one more time before he left.

I took a little break from the blogging world. I was getting too self-conscious about my writing skills compared to some of yours (you people reading my blog!) Some people are just so creative! Keeps me entertained! But I wanted to keep family and friends who are actually interested in the happenings of this Peterson household up on all of the latest. So I guess I'm baaaack! and here we go...First the update on ELDER PETERSON....
Feb. 3rd Crew and I flew up to Salt Lake, spent the night and went to the airport the next morning to spend an hour with Landry before he flew off to Alabama! It was great to see him, and definitaly worth the trip, even if it was only an hour! He was excited to be leaving the MTC and moving on to teach and preach and work as Missionaries do!

For Christmas I gave Brad tickets to The Beatles/LOVE show and a night at the Mirage.  (I know, kind of selfish hugh!)  So we went this past week.  The show was amazing and the music was so fun!  Every song reminded us of something and it was fun to get out and do something besides going to basketball games!!  Merry Christmas Brad!

I went to my cousins funeral this past weekend in AZ.  It was so unexpected and so hard to
believe.   Nanette is a wonderful wife and mother of 5.  She has some grandchildren and her twin boys are both out on missions.  The 2 boys were able to come home for the funeral and are going back out today.  They both spoke at the funeral and I realized the power that the Lord blesses His missionaries with.  I always come away from a funeral with the desire to try a little harder to live right, help others more and be a better wife and mother.  I found this quote by Pres. Monson today that fits perfectly:
"Let us relish life as we live it, find joy in the journey, and share our love with friends and family.  One day each of us will run out of tomorrows." ~ Pres. Thomas S. Monson

Elder Peterson is doing great and is loving the MTC.  He says the spirit is so strong there and he's learning a lot.  He get's to see Dallin and Brooklyn  at every meal and has gym with Dallin.  He is District Leader and seems to be really happy.  He saw his good friend Matt too, but now Matt's off to NC!  What a blessing to hear he is doing so good and is happy.

I don't know what she's doing either. Must be some kind of ancient housewife ritual.    Someone help me! I never know what to cook, and when I do, no one likes it, or it turns out terrible. So...I don't cook much any more. My poor family!

Jana & LeRoy were talking to Max Hall (the BYU quarterback) and his wife at the mall the other day and invited them over to meet Grandpa Peterson! They graciously came and were both so nice and cute and LeRoy had all of the little boys come to meet him too. Some of the boys had just gotten their BYU Jerseys for Christmas, so they got him to sign them! Thanks Max, for being so kind and going out of your way for Grandpa! It made his day! And all of ours! (I wish I had a picture of his wife...she was so cute and so sweet.) It felt like we had known them forever! GO Cougars!

We had a wonderful Christmas! The only problem is that I didn't take very many pictures. I did get a new camera though, and
I need to open it up and start using it now! We spent Christmas Eve with the Petersons, having dinner and a program. All of the talented members of the family (playing basketball doesn't count) sang, played the piano etc...then we had the Nativity and Landry read the story of the Birth of Jesus Christ from the Bible. Maddex was baby Jesus this year. He was good...he just looked around at everyone and was probably wondering what was going on! Christmas day was nice, it always is, because all of the work is done and you just get to enjoy the day! It was so fun having everyone home together. Cory was gone the last
2 years and Landry will be gone the next 2, so I really enjoyed it this year. The whole Holiday seemed to go by really fast, and with getting Landry ready, and running to AZ for Brooklyn's farewell, it was over before we knew it and everyone is back to the routine again! Merry Christmas to everyone and Happy New Year. I'm sorry if you didn't get a Christmas Card this year. It has
been a crazy, busy hectic time, and I'm just lucky to get my dishes done!! But really...I hope everyone that reads this had a
wonderful Holiday and has a wonderful time in 2009! Lance got the BYU Helmet for his Dad and Cory had his roommate(who
played for BYU before his mission, and was Cory's comp.) get a lot of the Team to sign it. Here he is in his Heisman pose!

This is what happens when you go to Walmart at midnight!!  Meet the UFC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Nogueira!!   So a few nights before Christmas I made a Walmart run at
midnight!  I was getting ready to check out and these 5 huge guys were checking out in front of me. One of them had a UFC sweatshirt on.  He started talking to me and I asked him if he was a UFC fighter.  He said no, but that guy is, and he points to the other guy.  I told him my boys loved the UFC and that they were just talking about the fight coming up on the 27th.  I asked him if I could take a picture and they all said I should be in it too. So the boys couldn't believe it when I came home and told them who I met at Walmart!!  Crazy hugh...and I don't even like the fights.  I hate them!  But I knew the boys would think it was cool!!

No school due to Snow! (In Las Vegas?)

Crew was up in  his room and pretty soon he came down and said he had a present for me!!  He made a Nativity out of LEGO's  all by himself!!  I love it!!  click on the picture to see it better.  It's even got the 3 wisemen with gifts .
Maddex is just watching T.V. with his Dad!  He looks so comfy!

I'm dreaming of a White
(sandy beach) Christmas!  I've got a million things to do and I keep going in circles...Everytime I hear this
Kenny Chesney song...I think how great it would be to just run away with my family for Christmas and leave all of the
hustle and bustle and even all the presents at home!  Just  to relax and reflect on the birth of the Savior and really enjoy it sounds perfect to me!  ( So what am I doing posting this at 1:00 A.M?!   I'm supposed to be doing some Relief Society stuff, and my Christmas Cards!

Landry is a missionary!!  Pres. Schlauder called yesterday and asked if Landry would go on a (short ~ week to 10 day) mission in Las Vegas!  An Elder had to go home and it left his companion alone, so until a new group of Elders come in from the MTC, they are short 1 elder. Anyways, Landry said yes, and he was set apart today as an official missionary.  He is expected to obey the rules of a missionary: no phone, no TV etc.... and will be living with 3 other Elders, riding a bike, and living the life of a missionary!!    So if you happen to see him around,  just know that he IS on a mission!!  (I know, it's kind of weird, but what a great experience it will be for him.  It will get him all set and ready to go on his real 2 year mission in January.)  He will be back home next week, will be released and then set apart again January 12th and then leave for Alabama!!.  Pretty exciting!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY CORY!!
I'm a few days late, (computer problems) but wanted to wish Cory a Happy Birthday and tell him how much we love him.  He has been the family entertainer for many years, and we still love
to get out our old family video's and laugh at all the funny faces he made and the funny things he was always doing.  He is a great brother, friend, son, missionary, student etc ........and we are so glad to have him in our family!  Happy 22nd!!

Happy Birthday CoPete

O.K. I know I'm a little carried away about Maddex,
but this was just so cute!  Turn off the music so you can hear him laugh!  It will make you smile!  video

This post is all about Maddex!!  He is just getting more fun everyday.  I think Crew is his favorite!  Crew walks up to him and he starts smiling right away.  What could be better than being a Grandma?!

Happy Birthday to mine and Brads DADS!

November is a big birthday month for the Petersons.  And on my Grant side we have a bunch including my Dad's on the 15th!  Happy Birthday to my Dad,  Jamie, Jayda,  & Trek, (Grant side!)  Caden, Dallin, Kendall, Sona, Paige and Grandpa Peterson.  All the girls went to Breakfast to celebrate and Grandpa  was the only invited man allowed!!

Time to catch up on some recent trips and family events!!  Last weekend we went to Snowflake, AZ to my sister Becky's sons farewell!  Brock is leaving for the Chicago Illinois South Mission on Dec. 3rd.  He and Landry have been great friends through the years and it is so exciting to see him grow up and now prepare to leave for his mission.  We had a nice weekend with some of the Grant family and other relatives I grew up with that I hadn't seen for along time.  Brock did great, Becky and Phil were great hosts and it was a fun time!  Good Luck Brock!

Monday, November 17, 2008

Another exciting event in the Peterson Family...Friday night Landry went through the Las Vegas Temple!  It was awesome.  I had 3 of my 4 sons (10 more years for Crew!) and mine and Brads parents.  Tyler, Darren & Janet also came to support!  It was kind of a sudden appt., since my parents were coming to town, so most of the Aunts, Uncles and cousins couldn't make it on such short notice.  But it was a great night and the spirit was so strong and I was just so grateful to be there with my 4 boys, counting Brad!  We missed Andrea being in with us, but Maddex won't really go to many people, so she waited in the waiting room (for 3 hours, that was nice of her, and Cory left before pictures.)  Then of course the next day was the big Rebel game and back to our house for the UFC fight.  (I can't watch it, in fact I hate it) but it's fun to have a houseful of boys and feed them and enjoy them while they're here.  That's one thing I really miss when my boys are on their missions, is them and their friends over.  I know they can be messy at times (most of the time!)and they sometimes (always!) eat a lot...but I would rather have them here than anywhere else!  Then I'm always glad when I get Cory's call that he made it safely back to Provo. Our lesson in R.S. was great, and we have to remember that even though the Country is in a crisis, and there is evil and catastrophes around us, the gospel will always bring us peace.  Life is good!!

Sunday Sunshine!

This week my Sunday Sunshine was mostly a fun trip to AZ. My sisters son Brock and my brothers daughter Brooklyn were both going through the Temple for their missions. Brock is going to Chicago, IL South, and Brooklyn is going to Bacalog (sp) Phillipines. Landry should be getting his call this week!! The temple was great and it was nice to have my parents, and my brother and sister their together. Landry stayed to spend a little time with Brock before he leaves, so it was just me driving home by myself. I have always wanted to go to the Grand Canyon and it's only 45 minutes out of the way on the way home and we never go...so since I was alone, I decided to do it!! Oh my gosh...I can't believe what an amazing view and I was soooo excited to finally see it. ((I grew up in AZ and have only been once, and we pass by it everytime we go visit my parents) It is something that you can see in pictures and hear about your whole life, but you can't even imagine the beauty and feeling of seeing it in person. I was so excited to call Brad and say "guess where I am?!" I spend about an hour there, walking around to a few different lookout spots, taking tons of pictures and checking out the lodge for when I bring my entire family back!! When we go back to AZ for Brocks farewell in a few weeks we WILL be taking a detour to the Grand Canyon! Also, I am going to train and go back in the spring and do the hike or the rim to rim run...so if you want to join me...let's do it!! (Maybe I'm going through a mid-life crisis, who knows, but I want to get in all of these fun things and see more places before I'm too old to enjoy! So how was Your week. Leave me a comment...I love to hear from you!
